Melinda
Schneider returns to the stage in 2024 to pay tribute to the legendary Doris
Day!
The world lost one of its biggest stars with the passing
of Doris Day. A legend of stage, screen and song, Doris died at age 97,
leaving behind an incredible body of work, including iconic movies and
unforgettable songs.
Doris Day, “The Girl Next Door”,
had millions of fans around the world, none bigger than chart-topping
Australian singer-songwriter Melinda Schneider, who has recorded two
albums of Doris’ songs, co-written and starred in a theatre show based on
Doris’ life, and performed sell-out tours celebrating Doris’ work.
Melinda
Schneider’s, A Farewell To Doris, is a heartfelt
tribute to Doris Day. This nostalgic concert celebration will include such
timeless hits as Que Sera, Sera, Sentimental Journey, Everybody Loves a
Lover and Secret Love plus classic songs from the movies Calamity
Jane, Love Me or Leave Me and The Pajama Game, as well as a
number of Doris’ big band standards.
Melinda’s love affair
with Doris Day started when she saw Calamity Jane when she was just
eight. “I thought she was the best of everything a woman can be, and
when I grew up I wanted to be just like her,” Melinda says. “Whenever
I revisit some of her old movies, I’m transported back to that place, a
place of happiness and pure joy.” In 2010, Melinda released the
acclaimed tribute album Melinda Does Doris – A Tribute To Doris Day, which
debuted at #1 on the ARIA Jazz and Blues chart, remaining there for 9
weeks.
Let's celebrate the life and music of Doris Day!

Join
professors Lexi Con and Noel Edge (the Word Nerd and the Science
Freak) for a thrilling voyage through the alphabet — where great big
chewy sesquipedalian words inspire mind-blowing scientific surprises.
Professor
Lexi Con has curated a curious collection of her favourite words (one for
every letter of the alphabet) with each word providing Professor Noel Edge
with an inspirational jumping off point for 26 quirky scientific
demonstrations – that squish and squirt, float and fly, erupt and explode.
Together,
this dad-joke quipping, prank-pulling pair of polished professors strut
their stuff in a performance that’s equal parts explosive, messy,
spectacular, hilarious, fascinating and gross. And if things weren’t
exciting enough, every show is completely different, with audiences
determining the order in which the letters are revealed and explored.
Plus,
did we mention, this is a race? The plucky pair of professors have just 52
minutes to complete their alphabetical, scientifical countdown. That’s
just 2 minutes per experiment! Will they make it in time...?
Brace
yourself for an immersive hour of carefully crafted alphabetical,
scientifical (award-winning!) chaos!

Grug
began his life as the top of a Burrawang tree that fell to the ground.
Resembling a small, striped haystack with feet and a nose, Grug is
fascinated by the world around him and solves everyday problems creatively
and without fuss.
When dancing instructions are too difficult to
understand, he invents his own dance and calls it ‘The Grug’. When snails
eat his cabbages, Grug plants more cabbages so there will be enough for
both him and the snails.
Having performed for more than 50,000
children and families worldwide, Grug is perfect for our youngest theatre
lovers.

A
Pop-rock Adaptation Of Rick Springfield’s Autobiography.
Written
by award-winning Australian playwright, Kieran Carroll and starring rising
Sydney performer, Jackson Carroll (no relation) Late, Late At Night
is a pop-rock stage adaptation of Rick Springfield’s compelling and
searing autobiography, the New York Times best-seller, Late, Late at
Night. Directed by Robert Johnson, the show features over 20 fantastic
Springfield gems from Zoot to the present day and includes many of
Springfield’s 17 Top 40 American hits in the 1980s.
This show
traces Springfield’s Australian and British childhood, his early music
days in Australia, his rollercoaster ride in 1970s America and the huge
pop and acting successes of the 1980s. This is followed by his fall from
public view, his mental health demise, and finally, the resurrection of
Rick Springfield as an artist in the 21st century.
Late, Late At
Night captures the heart and essence of Springfield’s major concerns
and musings: depression, God, no God, his parents, self-motivation, a long
sustaining career, love versus sex, music versus acting, his wife and
sons, the way America shaped him and what he left behind in Australia as
he built his career to lead the seemingly glamorous and not-so-glamorous
expatriate life.
Late, Late At Night is an epic journey of a
suburban boy whose journey to fame and fortune came with large personal
costs.

On
a freezing Christmas Eve, love sparks. Two hands meet in the dark and four
friends’ lives change forever.
Experience the original
bohemian love story.
When Mimì meets Rodolfo, it’s love at first
touch. They head out to bustling Café Momus, where the feisty Musetta and
Marcello rekindle their relationship. But even the deepest love can’t warm
a freezing winter.
For our bohemians, everything is possible and
the future can't come quickly enough. Rodolfo and his friends are
determined to make their mark on the world and experience everything it
has to offer – but right now they'd settle for something warm to eat.
Some
emotions are too big for words alone, and for that, we have music. La
Bohème exposes your soul to the feelings that only music can
express. The music soars with the ecstasy of love, crackles with the pain
of jealousy and cries with the agony of loss.
Puccini’s score has
always captured the soaring spirit of young love, and this new production
breathes fresh life into one of the world’s favourite operas.
Award-winning director Dean Bryant (Anything Goes, Sweet Charity)
brings his trademark wit and vivacity to this new staging, which captures
that giddy moment where you and your friends feel you'll live forever.

Australia’s favourite South African-New
Zealander Urzila Carlson is coming to the West Gippsland Arts
Centre as part of her brand-new show JUST JOKES!
According
to Carlson, the show's premise is simple. “Just Jokes is as it says on
the label! Just jokes! Come for a show and leave with a sore face from
laughing! Switch off and relax”, she said.
A deadset fan
favourite (quite literally), Urzila is now a three-time winner of the
Melbourne International Comedy Festival's People's Choice Award for most
tickets sold at the Festival. She is also a household name in Australia,
not least of all as a regular member of the panel of Network Ten's Have
You Been Paying Attention? She was a contestant in season 2 of Taskmaster
NZ in New Zealand, now airing on BINGE in Australia and Channel 4 in
the United Kingdom. Urzila made her UK TV debut in 2023, appearing on QI
during her September overseas tour. She also appears on Celebrity
Gogglebox Australia alongside her mates, Julia Morris and Nazeem
Hussain.
An undoubted comedy workhorse, Urzila is currently at the
top of her touring game. Urzila has sold out two tours of the United
Kingdom and a European tour in the last twelve months. Urzila also managed
to squeeze in a season at the prestigious invitation-only Just For Laughs
Comedy Festival in Montreal. In November, she will also host The Just For
Laughs All-Star Gala alongside Dara O Briain, Joanne McNally and Russell
Kane at the Sydney Opera House. And 2024 is already shaping up to be as
big, with Urzila set to be heard in feature animation Ozi, lending her
voice to the character 'Honkus' in the film alongside a star-studded cast,
including Donald Sutherland, Laura Dern, Ru Paul, and Amandla Stenberg,
produced by Leonardo DiCaprio.
If that dance card isn't full
enough, Carlson is now in the 4th season of her chart-topping podcast, 'That's
Enough Already!' where she interviews comedians about what annoys them
the most about themselves and others. Guests so far include Jimmy Carr,
Sarah Millican, Julia Morris, Tim Minchin, Russell Howard and many more.

As
young twenty-something-year-olds, Choirboys formed in 1978, growing
up on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. The wild, hedonistic lifestyle the band
witnessed of the youth in the '70s is ultimately what gave birth to their
seminal rock anthem, Run To Paradise. It’s all about the stories
that sound all too familiar within the culture widely assumed of the music
industry - “sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll” and they tell it all.
Who
would have thought that Run To Paradise, thirty-five years on,
would ultimately have started the first chapter of a myriad of untold
stories as recalled by a band that’s seen it all, heard it all, and helped
in the craziness?
Run To Paradise is a “spilling of the
beans” of sorts. It's part story, part song that chronicles some of the
wildest, most risqué, outrageous, and downright hilarious stories of
Australian Rock. All, as these Oz pub-rock icons recall it.
“They
didn’t call it Pub Rock in those days, but we were there in the beginning
and we’re still here now,” says front-man, Mark Gable. “Put
it down to hearsay – it’s our opinion, it’s what we saw, it’s what people
told us and most of it is extremely funny and incredibly interesting. Some
of the stories are so funny and just plain stupid because back then, we
could do things that nobody else could do because it wasn’t a normal job.
There were no rules.""
Which movie star did the
Divinyls bass player meet under a table at a nightclub, what were Chuck
Berry’s weird work tactics, if Deep Purple was really responsible for Mark
walking with a limp, and what happened to a pair of Iggy Pop’s pants?
And
behind the narrative are the classic songs that define the musical
landscape of rock music in the ’70s and ’80s, including Deep Purple’s Smoke
On The Water, Chuck Berry’s Never Can Tell, TMG’s Jump
In My Car, Dragon’s Are You Old Enough, AC/DC’s Long
Way To The Top and of course the Choirboys hits Boys Will Be Boys,
Never Gonna Die, Struggletown and the pub-rock anthem, Run
to Paradise, to name a few.

Hello
Red Planet is a humorous theatrical celebration of our community’s
shared history. This family-focused production engages with local
residents to collect their perspectives and stories, and then integrates
these into a public ‘info-night’ comedy puppet show.
Baw
Baw Shire is being re-located to Mars (we promise, it's the best way to
dodge those Earthly troubles), and this info session is required viewing.
Tired of lush Mt Baw Baw? Embrace the endless shades of Martian red. No
more mosquitos, no more noisy corellas and no more hayfever!
Ahead
of the 'info-night' audio interviews with local residents are recorded,
investigating the pride, problems and shared stories of the local
community. These are edited and re-purposed using puppetry and animation
techniques and presented at the main public event where two hilariously
out-of-touch futurist developers will make their impassioned pitch on why
and how the community will be relocated to the new Mars colony.

The Trash Queen of Cabaret, Tash York, is determined
to find out what makes us happy. Is it finishing that 3rd bottle of wine?
Staying up until 3am because you don’t want the night to end? Buying yet
another cat? (She has 3 already you know…)
After two years
lost to the global panini, Tash York’s Happy Hour is set to
thrill you even more than a half-price wine list. Tash unapologetically
drinks a pool of wine, practices self-care, slays her insecurities, and
makes the effort to make sure everyone leaves their troubles at the door.
Backed by her boozy music makers and backing singers The Red Red Wines
(Peppy Smears & Vivian Fonteyn) expect powerful three-part harmonies,
hilarious true stories, improvised numbers and of course Australia’s
favourite game - Goon of Fortune!
Don’t let the makeup, wigs and
costumes fool you; Tash York is as bogan as they come. Celebrated with
countless awards and glowing reviews, Happy Hour combines Drag and
Cabaret in a way unlike any other - Think Meow Meow meets Bianca Del Rio
but on a budget! Your Hostess with the Mostess (wine) Tash York is a
multi-award winning cabaret artist who has been touring the world with her
hit solo shows and is also celebrated Emcee of The After Hours Cabaret
Club, The Australian Burlesque Festival and Briefs: Sweatshop.

Melinda
Schneider’s, A Farewell To Doris, is a heartfelt

timeless hits as Que Sera, Sera, Sentimental Journey, Everybody Loves a
Lover and Secret Love plus classic songs from the movies Calamity

when I grew up I wanted to be just like her,” Melinda says.

Join
professors Lexi Con and Noel Edge (the Word Nerd and the Science

Plus,
did we mention, this is a race? The plucky pair of professors have just 52

Grug
began his life as the top of a Burrawang tree that fell to the ground.

On
a freezing Christmas Eve, love sparks.

Ahead
of the 'info-night' audio interviews with local residents are recorded,
investigating the pride, problems and shared stories of the local
community. These are edited and re-purposed using puppetry and animation
techniques and presented at the main public event where two hilariously
out-of-touch futurist developers will make their impassioned pitch on why
and how the community will be relocated to the new Mars colony.

renowned storytellers Bunk Puppets for a satirical information session
